Gaenor Farren-Smith – Norfolk School of Art – Distinction
Farren Smith is an oil painter living and working in Berkshire. She has been an Art & Design teacher for many years and has studied the medium of oil painting intensively to develop her work and understand the technicalities of this subtle medium.
‘The texture of the paint is very important, it is the semi-abstract aspect of the painting. The emotional, feeling sense of the painting is in the texture of the paint including the brushstrokes, it’s a kind of living mark. The mark making is alive on the canvas to me.’
Farren Smith’s river, land and sky-scapes’ are all about ‘being in the moment’ and transmuting the essence of a place to the viewer. Her paintings can be considered as ‘Lyrical Expressionism’.
