Artist Statement

On a recent visit to Glasgow I observed a man walking along the street near a launderette in his Samurai outfit.

My sense of fun led me to imagine a Samurai sitting in a launderette and as can be viewed the red sun in the reflection of the tub. To enhance the painting Pinocchio is sitting on the bench playing with his toy train

I took a photo of the side of this Tea shop Polly Tearooms in Marlborough in the autumn of last year when the recently pollarded tree was resplendent in its remaining leaves of vivid yellow.

It was late evening and the street light lit up the scene in sharp contrast, Friday revelers were on Marlborough High Street in fine voice. The painting needed a focal point and the incongruity of a cartoon character in an inebriated state appealed so Pinocchio singing his heart out having discarded his fifth or sixth bottle of imported Heineken.
