Georgie Cowan – MA – Born 1952 Scotland
Cowan’s won a scholarship to the prestigious Glasgow School of Art, achieved her Masters of Art degree at Hertfordshire University School of Art and has been awarded a British Design Award for Illustration.
Other works extend from black and white prints and painted textiles to abstract oil paintings.
Style: figurative landscape.
Cowan’s Oil & Ink on Parchment pieces, are individually painted, leaning on the traditions of Chagall, Beckmann and surreal artists like Ensor. Through the use of animal and flora motifs she explores metaphors for human folly and emotional situations derived partly from classical mythology and Medieval art. These works are sometimes dark, sometimes poignant and often humorous.
